Patent Rights for Lemon Myrtle Beverage Composition Transferred to Ilseong Foodtech Co., Ltd.
Department of Food and Nutrition at Silla University (President Heo Nam-sik) has transferred a patent related to beverage food technology to a food manufacturing company.
Silla University announced on the 11th that through last year's supply technology DB advancement project, it transferred the patent rights for the "beverage composition containing lemon myrtle extract" to Ilsung Foodtech Co., Ltd.
Professor Kim Mi-hyang of the Department of Food and Nutrition at Silla University identified the antioxidant activity of lemon myrtle and produced effective results for collagen synthesis in the body through experiments using skin cell lines.
She also developed extraction conditions with a high preference for lemon scent and beverage formulation ratios, registered the patent for the "beverage composition containing lemon myrtle extract," and transferred this technology to Ilsung Foodtech Co., Ltd.
With this technology transfer, it is expected that not only will the beverage's palatability increase due to its pleasant aroma, but also the production of functional beverages with high antioxidant activity and skin benefits will be possible.
Professor Kim said, "In addition to beverages, various products such as cosmetics using lemon myrtle can be developed, and furthermore, it can be utilized as a material for health functional foods," adding, "I will focus on molecular biological research to verify its functionality."
