The food industry’s “quiet acts of kindness,” carried out by supporting treatment costs or donating goods for children with leukemia, have recently come to light, adding warmth to the cause.
According to industry sources on the 11th, Nongshim has been sending Baeksansu mineral water every month to over 330 families of pediatric leukemia patients in partnership with the Korea Leukemia Pediatric Cancer Association since 2018. Up until last year, they have donated a cumulative total of 1.26 million bottles of the 500ml product. Since patients with weakened immune systems must strictly manage even the water they drink, the company explained that Baeksansu is sourced from the pristine natural forests of Baekdu Mountain, producing clean water that patients can safely consume.

The mother of a patient receiving Baeksansu support from Nongshim expressed her gratitude, saying, “The high cost of treatment is burdensome, but there are many details to carefully manage, from the water they drink to daily habits. While providing bottled water may seem like a small help, as a parent of a patient, it truly gives us great strength.”
Additionally, Nongshim incorporates winning artworks from a pediatric leukemia patient drawing contest onto Baeksansu bottles and donates 2.15% of the sales revenue to the Korea Leukemia Pediatric Cancer Association every year. A Nongshim representative stated, “We will continue to expand various activities that can help all patients, from those currently undergoing treatment to those who have been cured.”

Domino’s Pizza has also donated 3.65 billion KRW for leukemia patient treatment costs to Seoul National University Children’s Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital, and Samsung Seoul Hospital since 2005. The mother of a patient who received help from Domino’s last year said, “We will never forget the kindness shown during difficult times and will strive to recover quickly so that we can also be a source of warmth for others.” It is known that this patient’s condition has improved, and they have been discharged from inpatient care to continue treatment at home. A Domino’s Pizza representative said, “We will continue to provide steady support and attention so that patients can worry less about their treatment.”
