View original imageJung In-gyo, Director of the Strategic Materials Management Institute, has been appointed as the Head of the Trade Negotiation Headquarters at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, responsible for trade policy. The new head, Jung, is recognized as an expert who has devoted himself to trade and economic security, known not only for his theoretical knowledge but also for his practical experience, having participated in major Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
Born in 1961, Jung graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in economics and earned a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University. For over 30 years since 1996, he worked as a researcher and professor at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy and Inha University’s Department of International Trade, focusing on FTA, international trade policy, and economic security policy.
He directly participated in negotiations for major FTAs such as the Chile FTA and the Korea-U.S. FTA. He also served as an advisory member to government ministries including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a legislative advisory member to the National Assembly. In academia, he held various roles such as president of the Korean Association for Negotiation and vice president of the Korean Trade Association.

Following the inauguration of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, he served as the head of the economic security division of the National Economic Advisory Council and then took on the role of director at the Strategic Materials Management Institute, supporting the government’s foreign export control policies.
