Hamyang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that it was selected as the grand prize winner in the policy category of the ‘2024 Urban Design Awards’ jointly hosted by the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) and JoongAng Ilbo.
According to Hamyang County, the ‘2024 Urban Design Awards’ is an event established to discover and award outstanding urban design cases that contribute to strengthening urban competitiveness and balanced regional development. This year, the competition was held nationwide targeting local governments, private companies, and organizations, with judging divided into three categories: design, policy, and technology.

View original imageHamyang County was highly evaluated for organically policy-implementing Hamyang-style urban design and urban regeneration through its urban regeneration strategic plan, a strategic policy linked to the integrated policy management system called the Simu 10 Trillion Project, and the concrete implementation plan known as the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan.
Hamyang County, which holds the largest number of urban regeneration project sites among county-level local governments nationwide with four locations, is expected to gain momentum in promoting the Seosang-myeon urban regeneration project, scheduled to begin this year, following its grand prize win in the policy category of this urban design competition.
The Seosang-myeon urban regeneration project, with a total budget of 10.3 billion KRW, will be carried out in the area around 1770-1 Daenam-ri under the slogan “Gathering People, Resources, and Experiences to Revitalize Seosang on Our Own.” The project aims to improve the local residential environment and urban landscape through support for home repairs, barrier-free alleyway maintenance, and the establishment of a living environment foundation.
