‘A New Beginning Opening the Future’ Naju-si Gapjin Year New Year's Meeting Held
Naju City in Jeollanam-do held a New Year's greeting meeting with heads of major institutions and social organizations, pledging to embark together on Naju's bold journey as a new starting point opening the future.
Naju City announced that it held the 2024 New Year's greeting meeting at 2 p.m. on the 5th in the large conference room of the city hall.
At the New Year's greeting meeting, 106 figures from various fields attended, including Mayor Yoon Byung-tae, National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon, City Council Chairman Lee Sang-man, local city and provincial council members, Kim Jong-woon, chairman of the People Power Party Naju-Hwasun district committee, Seo Jeong-yoon, president of the Senior Citizens Association, Jang Jin-young, police chief, Park Yeon-ho, fire chief, Seon Gyu-seong, tax office chief, Jo In-sik, commander of the 3rd Battalion, Army Unit 8332, Song Ha-jung, chairman of the Private School Teachers' Pension Corporation, and Park Jin-ho, acting president of Korea Energy Engineering University, along with heads of institutions and social organizations, businesspeople, and journalists. In particular, each attendee was individually introduced with gratitude and respect.
The event proceeded with a congratulatory performance by the Naju City Choir, greetings from the mayor, National Assembly member, and city council chairman, viewing of the 2024 city administration vision video, New Year's cake cutting ceremony, a toast proposal by the Senior Citizens Association president, and sharing of New Year's well-wishes.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said in his greeting, "Despite difficult internal and external conditions, I sincerely thank the heads of various institutions and social organizations who have fulfilled their roles for citizen happiness and Naju's development in their respective positions." He added, "We will do our best to create a city with the highest quality of life and future hope by leveraging Naju's characteristics and strengths, making it a hub city for the joint prosperity of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do."
Mayor Yoon introduced last year's major achievements, including ranking first in birth rate increase among local governments in Jeollanam-do, receiving the highest awards in Jeollanam-do agricultural policy and export evaluations, winning the comprehensive grand prize at the Korea Economic Awards, ranking first in the government joint evaluation for dementia management, exceeding the 1 billion KRW target for the Hometown Love Donation system, and improving the overall integrity rating by two levels to 'Grade 3.'
He expressed his New Year's determination, saying, "We will implement administration that communicates and empathizes with citizens with a more humble attitude, provide customized welfare by generation and class to satisfy citizens, usher in an era of 5 million tourists to revitalize the local economy, and realize Naju as a business-friendly city where entrepreneurs and workers can work enthusiastically and take pride."
National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon said in his congratulatory speech, "I felt through this New Year's greeting meeting that the step of one hundred people is more important than the hundred steps of one person." He added, "Just as Naju's population, which had fallen to 87,000, is writing a history of reversal and miracles, let us create a country with hope in local areas and a victorious and hopeful Naju together."
City Council Chairman Lee Sang-man also conveyed his congratulatory remarks, saying, "I will work hard, cheer, and support so that everyone can confidently talk about Naju's bright future."
Following the greetings and speeches, Seo Jeong-yoon, president of the Senior Citizens Association, proposed a toast, saying, "I wish for the health, happiness, and hope of the 120,000 citizens in the hopeful Gapjin year and all those attending the greeting meeting."
Representatives including Senior Citizens Association president Seo Jeong-yoon, Mayor Yoon Byung-tae, National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon, and City Council Chairman Lee Sang-man held a rice cake cake-cutting ceremony inscribed with the phrase "A new start opening Naju's future! Together, bigger!" to pray for Naju's hopeful future.
