As the era of 3 million pet-owning households arrives, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is set to create the largest 'Pet Theme Park' in the metropolitan area on the Imjingang Riverside Resort site in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province. The park will include pet-friendly camping grounds and swimming pools, a large-scale dog playground, training centers, as well as pet funeral and memorial facilities.
On the 5th, Seoul announced that it will sign a business agreement with Yeoncheon-gun at Seoul City Hall to establish the 'Seoul Pet Theme Park and Memorial Hall.' Construction of the theme park will begin this year, with the goal of opening in 2027.
Currently, there are approximately 900,000 pet-owning households (22.2%) in Seoul, with a total of 1,147,000 pets. This means that one in five households owns a pet. Seoul explained that as the number of pet-owning households is expected to increase, it has prepared facilities near Seoul where people can comfortably spend leisure time with their pets.
The 'Seoul Pet Theme Park' will be developed on about 120,000㎡ of the Imjingang Riverside Resort site in Gunnam-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, making it the largest of its kind in the metropolitan area. It will feature pet-friendly camping grounds suitable for caravans, glamping, and auto camping, a dog-friendly swimming pool, a large-scale dog playground, training centers, and pet grooming salons. Additionally, as the number of pets increases, the city will establish a 'Pet Memorial Hall' on approximately 5,000㎡ near the theme park to promote a culture of pet funerals. The memorial hall will include facilities such as crematoriums or drying facilities and columbariums.
Under this business agreement, Yeoncheon-gun will handle infrastructure construction, Imjingang river area maintenance, and public hearings, while Seoul will oversee the theme park’s development and operation, aiming for an opening in 2027.
