Gyeongbuk Province Recruits 30 Integrity Citizen Auditors ... Tasks Include Proposing Integrity Policies and Participating in Audits
Gyeongbuk Province is publicly recruiting 30 members for the 8th Gyeongsangbuk-do Integrity Citizen Auditors from the 5th to the 17th to expand opportunities for residents' participation in anti-corruption and integrity activities and to realize fair and transparent audit administration through the operation of an open audit system.
The Integrity Citizen Auditor system is a public-private cooperative audit system involving residents, which started in 1996 to collect public opinion and feedback on various illegal and unfair acts occurring in daily life.
The roles include receiving public interest reports and suggestions for improvement and correction of unreasonable systems and practices, verifying and inspecting proposed amendments and corrections, proposing anti-corruption and integrity policies, participating in comprehensive audits of cities and counties, and specific audits.
During the 7th term (2022?2023), 171 Integrity Citizen Auditors actively operated in 22 cities and counties within the province, receiving and processing 135 cases of system improvements, suggestions, and audit reports.
Gyeongbuk Province appoints the Integrity Citizen Auditors through a public recruitment process to ensure transparency in the composition of auditors, provide fair opportunities to many, expand participation opportunities for various expert residents in provincial administration, and enhance integrity levels.
The term of office for the 8th Integrity Citizen Auditors to be recruited this time is two years, from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2026, and 30 members will be recruited.
Applicants must be experts with professional qualifications in fields such as law, accounting, technology, environment, construction, health, and agriculture, with practical experience in the relevant field; those who have held positions equivalent to assistant professor or higher at universities or accredited research institutions; or those who have served as public officials at grade 5 or higher in national or local governments, with experience related to audit work. The selection targets experts with abundant professional knowledge and experience.

Seo Jeong-chan, Auditor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “The achievement of the highest overall integrity grade and the top grade in integrity efforts in the 2023 comprehensive integrity evaluation of public institutions was due to the active role of the Integrity Citizen Auditors.” He added, “By promoting various integrity policies involving residents, including revitalizing the 8th Integrity Citizen Auditor system, we hope that residents with expertise and integrity will actively participate and apply to help Gyeongbuk become an even more transparent local government.”
