US Labor Department Charges Musk's SpaceX with Unfair Employee Dismissal
8 Employees Fired on Charges of Criticizing Musk's Remarks
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has filed a complaint against Elon Musk's space exploration company, SpaceX, for unfair dismissal.
According to Bloomberg and other foreign media on the 3rd (local time), the NLRB regional office submitted a complaint to the board accusing SpaceX of unfairly dismissing eight employees.
Previously, in June 2022, SpaceX fired employees who sent a letter criticizing CEO Musk's public statements to management. At the time, they argued that Musk's posts on social media contained sexual innuendos and that the company should control them.
The NLRB judged that by dismissing these employees, SpaceX restricted workers' rights to unionize and pursue better working conditions. Furthermore, it found that management illegally surveilled, interrogated, and retaliated against the employees.
With the regional office's submission of the complaint, the NLRB refers the case to the board composed of five members appointed by the president. The NLRB's attorneys act similarly to prosecutors. The first hearing for this case is scheduled for March 5. If SpaceX does not reach a settlement, an administrative law judge will hear the case, and the company may appeal the ruling to a federal court if dissatisfied.
