Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) stood out for its vacant house maintenance and linkage with other projects.
Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 3rd that it won the Excellence Award in the 'Vacant House Maintenance Outstanding City/County Evaluation' hosted by Jeollanam-do, receiving a prize money of 30 million won.
This evaluation was selected by comprehensively assessing the vacant house maintenance and utilization/linkage performance and best practices within 22 cities and counties in the province by the Vacant House Maintenance Evaluation Committee.
In 2023, the county demolished a total of 130 vacant houses, achieving 100% of the maintenance target, the only one among the 22 cities and counties. It also received high evaluations in linkage areas with other projects such as the vulnerable area living condition improvement project and the slate disposal support project.

A Hwasun-gun official stated, “Recently, neglected vacant houses have emerged as a social issue,” adding, “We are proactively responding by continuously maintaining and utilizing vacant houses and discovering new policies to create safe and vibrant residential conditions. We also expect residents to suggest alternatives for vacant house utilization anytime through the website.”
