Mokpo National University Receives Vice Minister of Education Commendation for Excellence in Gender Equality
Recognition of Performance in Faithfully Fulfilling Gender Equality Responsibilities as a National University
National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 3rd that it was selected as an ‘Excellent Institution for Gender Equality in Education’ in 2023 and received a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education.
The Ministry of Education encourages gender equality policies at national universities by conducting ‘Gender Equality Action Plans and Performance Reviews’ at each national university, which include expanding gender diversity in faculty appointments and decision-making processes within the university, and regularly publishes the evaluation results.

In this year’s evaluation, which reviewed 39 national universities and national university corporations nationwide based on △gender diversity of newly appointed professors △gender diversity of full-time professors △gender diversity in decision-making bodies such as administrative positions and major committees, National Mokpo University was selected as an excellent institution for gender equality along with Korea National Open University and Cheongju National University of Education.
This achievement of National Mokpo University is attributed to the appointment of female professors to key positions such as the heads of the Planning Office and Admissions Office, which were newly appointed after the inauguration of the new president in December 2022, as well as to the heads of affiliated institutions closely related to students’ education and welfare, including the library, student dormitory, and education training center.
