Yoon Holds This Year's Work Report 'Livelihood Discussion with the People'... Held at Livelihood Sites
Over 10 Sessions Planned on Housing, Jobs, and Safety
Breaking Down Interdepartmental Barriers to Strengthen Collaboration
President Yoon Suk-yeol will conduct the 2024 government work report starting from the 4th in a format where the government and the public discuss specific issues and come up with alternatives. Previously, individual ministries reported their tasks to the president and received instructions, but President Yoon judged that the public should attend the work report to reflect the atmosphere of the livelihood field.
The presidential office announced on the 3rd that President Yoon will hold the 2024 government work report in the form of a "Livelihood Discussion Forum with the People and the President." The field- and livelihood-centered state administration policy, which President Yoon has emphasized since the second half of last year, was also reflected in this year's work report. Recently, President Yoon instructed, "Create a place where related ministries, stakeholders, and experts all participate in in-depth discussions on topics closely related to people's livelihoods."
This year's work report will be conducted in a way that discusses with the public and experts at various policy sites. Starting with the first topic, "Vibrant Livelihood Economy," it is expected to continue more than 10 times covering ▲housing ▲jobs ▲small and medium enterprises ▲public safety ▲care ▲transportation ▲medical reform ▲media policy ▲low birthrate measures ▲energy policy, and more.
The discussion venues will also be held at policy sites related to the respective topics. The second discussion forum on the 10th of this month, themed "Housing," will be held in an area scheduled for redevelopment of an aging new town. According to the presidential office, depending on the topic, industrial complexes, youth startup spaces, universities, planned metropolitan transportation facility projects, and military bases with soldiers are being considered as venues.
The idea that multiple ministries collaborate on one topic is also President Yoon's initiative. At the end of last year’s Cabinet meeting, President Yoon emphasized, "We must boldly break down the barriers between ministries and strengthen cooperation centered on tasks," and added, "We will provide institutional support so that personnel exchanges between ministries can be greatly expanded to break down walls and strengthen cooperation."
Accordingly, in discussion forums related to livelihood, jobs, and diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Defense Acquisition Program Administration will prepare together. Regarding the semiconductor cluster development strategy, the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of SMEs and Startups will participate.
