Uiryeong-gun Announces Call for Entries for the 14th Cheongang Literary Award

Honoring the Noble Spirit of Generals Cheonggang Hongui and Gwak Jaewoo

The Cheongang Literary Award Steering Committee in Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, is accepting submissions for the "14th Cheongang Literary Award" from the 1st to the 31st of this month.

The Cheongang Literary Award was established to honor the noble spirit of General Gwak Jae-woo, known as Cheongang Hongui General, meaning "the general in red clothes who descended from the sky," and to continue the literary tradition in Uiryeong, the land of loyalty and righteousness, by nurturing outstanding writers.

The submission categories include poetry, sijo, novels, children's literature, and essays, totaling five categories. The theme of the works is free, and anyone who is a citizen of the Republic of Korea, including established writers, can apply.

There will be a total of 15 winners: one grand prize winner and two excellence award winners in each category. The prize money for the novel category grand prize is 10 million KRW, with excellence awards at 5 million KRW each. For poetry, sijo, children's literature, and essays, the grand prize is 7 million KRW each, and excellence awards are 3 million KRW each.

Meanwhile, for the "8th Uiryeong-gun Youth Cheongang Literary Award," which accepted submissions until December 31 last year, 31 winners were selected from three divisions?lower elementary (grades 1?3), upper elementary (grades 4?6), and middle and high school students?competing in both poetry and prose skills, targeting elementary, middle, and high school students within Uiryeong-gun.

The submitted works will undergo fair and rigorous evaluation, with the results announced in March 2024, and the awards ceremony will be held during the Uiryeong Hongui General Festival.
