Assaulted While Following Schedule in Busan
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was attacked with a weapon while carrying out his schedule in Busan on the 2nd, and major foreign media outlets urgently reported the news of the attack on Lee.
US CNN reported in an article titled "South Korean opposition leader stabbed in the neck but conscious," stating, "Lee Jae-myung, a major opposition leader in South Korea, was stabbed in the neck while visiting the southern city of Busan."
CNN noted, "South Korean politics is deeply polarized," mentioning the 2006 attack on former President Park Geun-hye with a box cutter and the 2022 hammer attack on former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil.
During his visit to Busan, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was attacked with a weapon, is being transported to Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 2nd.

The US Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported, "The 59-year-old politician was transported to a hospital, and the male assailant was arrested at the scene," adding, "(Lee) was taken to a hospital in Seoul and is scheduled to undergo surgery late in the afternoon."
WSJ described Lee as "one of the most famous and controversial politicians in South Korea," noting that "he narrowly lost to conservative candidate Yoon Seok-youl in the 2022 presidential election."

The UK Guardian included a video of the attack on Lee, stating, "Photos from the scene show the attacker wearing a paper crown with Lee's name on it." The outlet explained, "Despite strict gun control laws and low crime rates, South Korea has a history of political violence involving various types of weapons."
