"Violence is the Enemy of Democracy"
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon said on the 2nd regarding the news of the attack on Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, "I cannot suppress my shock and anger."
Through social media (SNS) on the same day, former leader Lee said, "I sincerely hope that Leader Lee's injury is not serious and that he recovers quickly."
He added, "Violence is the enemy of democracy. Violence can never be tolerated," and said, "The suspect arrested at the scene must be thoroughly investigated and punished to prevent violence from happening again."
Earlier, after touring the site of the new airport in Gadeokdo, Busan, and finishing a Q&A session with reporters, Leader Lee was attacked on the left side of his neck by an unidentified man while moving, collapsing while bleeding.
The assailant approached, claiming to be a supporter of Leader Lee and requesting a sign, then pulled out a weapon and assaulted Leader Lee. It is known that the assailant was wearing a crown inscribed with "I am Lee Jae-myung" on his head. The police arrested the attacker at the scene. The assailant was reportedly carrying a 20cm weapon at the time of arrest. The attacker is estimated to be in his 60s.

Leader Lee, who was transported by helicopter to Busan National University Hospital, was then transferred by helicopter to Seoul National University Hospital due to concerns about jugular vein damage and massive bleeding, where surgery was planned.
