Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is implementing the '2023-2024 Winter Cold Wave Comprehensive Countermeasures' to minimize damage to residents caused by the winter cold wave.
This plan will be carried out over four months, from November 15th of this year to March 15th of next year. When a cold wave advisory is issued, the district will operate a Cold Wave Comprehensive Support Situation Room to respond quickly and efficiently.
Earlier, on the 20th, following the issuance of a cold wave warning across Seoul, the district activated the 'Cold Wave Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Situation Room' and held a practical comprehensive countermeasure meeting chaired by the district mayor to review key situations.
To protect vulnerable groups, the district is implementing various projects including ▲monitoring crisis households among welfare recipients ▲checking on elderly living alone ▲operating cold wave shelters ▲providing heating supplies ▲patrolling and counseling homeless people.
In November and on the 15th of this month, the district provided winter supplies to low-income elderly living alone. They supported 504 electric carbon mats, 520 electric heating pads, and 6,226 winter thermal socks.
Fifty-six locations such as welfare centers and senior citizen centers have been designated as cold wave shelters and are open to local residents during cold wave advisories. The district operates 178 heated bus stop seats and 11 smart shelters to help citizens rest warmly.
To help citizens prepare for the cold wave, the district strengthens publicity through ▲guidance on national action measures ▲social network service (SNS) promotions ▲media coverage. They provide cold wave-related action guidelines and real-time disaster alerts via social networks such as blogs, Facebook, and Instagram.
