30s Man Who Commented "Airplane Terror" While Watching Internet Broadcast Detained
A man in his 30s who wrote a comment saying "I will carry out a terror attack on the airplane" while watching an internet broadcast has been arrested.
The Cyber Investigation Division of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced on the 25th that they have arrested a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on charges of threat and obstruction of official duties by deception.
Mr. A is accused of writing a comment in the chatroom saying "I will carry out a terror attack on the 10 o'clock flight" after the host (BJ) said, "I will take the flight from Jeju to Incheon at 10 PM tonight," while watching an internet broadcast at around 8:20 PM on the 22nd.
A citizen watching the broadcast in Suwon reported Mr. A's comment to the police. When the Uijeongbu Police Station found that Mr. A resided in their jurisdiction, detectives were dispatched and he was urgently arrested at his residence around 11 PM on the same day.
As a result of investigating Mr. A's residence and mobile phone, no terror-related items were found. Mr. A stated during the police investigation, "I said it as a joke because the BJ said he was taking a flight."
