80cm Heavy Snow on Jeju Hallasan and 30cm in Seogwipo
A man commuting on skis appeared on a road in Jeju Island where traffic was paralyzed due to heavy snowfall.
According to JIBS (Jeju Broadcasting System) on the 22nd, a man equipped with ski gear was spotted moving on a road in Jeju around 6:40 a.m. where heavy snow had fallen. The road was not under traffic control despite the heavy snow, and although cars were coming and going and citizens warned it was dangerous, the man calmly left while skiing.
Photos and videos taken at the time show the man wearing a yellow padded jumper and carrying a backpack while equipped with ski gear. Snow was piled up on the road, and regular vehicles were also passing through.
A citizen, Mr. A, shouted at the man on skis, "It's too dangerous, come to the sidewalk, you will get hurt!" but the man disappeared quickly while skiing.
In a broadcast interview, Mr. A said, "It was not a road where vehicle control was enforced, so I thought it was very dangerous."
In Jeju Island, a man skiing on an urban sidewalk was also spotted and became a hot topic in 2018. He was Mr. B, who worked as an instructor at a driving school in Jeju city. When public transportation was paralyzed due to heavy snow, he commuted about 12 km a day on skis and was a 'ski expert' with a first-class alpine ski referee qualification.
Netizens speculated that the man spotted this time might be the same person as the 2018 case.
A heavy snow warning was issued across Jeju on that day. Snow accumulated about 80.4 cm at Samgakbong Peak of Hallasan Mountain in Jeju, and about 30.2 cm in Seogwipo (Hannam). It is expected that an additional 10 to 20 cm (up to more than 30 cm) of snow will pile up in the Jeju mountain area, and up to 10 cm or more in the mid-mountain area of Jeju.

Meanwhile, flights at Jeju International Airport, which had been completely suspended due to the heavy snowfall, are gradually returning to normal as of the 23rd. The airport runway operation, which had been suspended since 8:20 a.m. the previous day, ended after 7 hours and 40 minutes, and flights began with aircraft that had completed maintenance. Despite the resumption of airport operations, many flights were significantly delayed depending on airline circumstances. The nearly 8-hour suspension of airport operations caused continuous delays and cancellations, causing great inconvenience to tourists and residents.
