Communication Time with the 'Jinju Essay Literature Society' and Cultural City Jinju, etc.
Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju, Gyeongnam, spent a December date time with members of the ‘Jinju Essay Literature Society’ at the Jinju Innovation City Complex Innovation Center.
The date held on the 20th was arranged as an opportunity to share opinions on ‘Jinju as a cultural city with citizen participation’ with about 10 members of the Jinju Essay Literature Society, who sincerely depicted stories about Jinju and its citizens in essays.
The ‘Jinju Essay Literature Society’ was founded in 2005 with the purpose of cultivating essay literary skills and raising awareness among Jinju citizens. It has published the anthology ‘Saram Saneun Jip’ and the citizen-participated creative essay collection ‘Baram Seokryue Ilda,’ and conducts educational and field trip activities on Jinju-style literary figures such as Hyoju Heo Man-jeong.
Jeong Hyun-cheol, the representative of the ‘Jinju Essay Literature Society,’ and members who attended this date showed deep interest in Jinju’s future plans as a cultural city and various support projects in the cultural and artistic fields for 2024.
Mayor Jo said, “Following this year, Jinju City has allocated a budget of about 3.3 billion KRW, including national and provincial subsidies, to support activities of cultural and religious organizations, preservation of cultural heritage, and cultural exchanges between regions in 2024. We are preparing various public contest projects through the Jinju Culture and Tourism Foundation to revitalize local culture and support local artists. We are doing our best to be designated as a ‘Korea Cultural City,’ which the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will support with up to 10 billion KRW annually for three years starting in 2025, aiming to promote regional development through culture. We ask for much encouragement and active cooperation from local cultural figures,” he said.
The date venue, the ‘Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City Complex Innovation Center,’ was built in Chungmugong-dong with a project cost of 27 billion KRW, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, and held its opening ceremony last August.
Main facilities include business support facilities such as corporate support offices, conference rooms, and lecture rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors. On the 1st floor, a community care center will be installed to improve the insufficient residential infrastructure within the Innovation City, and resident autonomy programs will be operated from 2024.
