Busan City Supports Warm Winter for Elderly Living Alone
City and Elderly Living Alone Comprehensive Support Center Supports 1,910 Single Elderly Households
Plans to Provide Check-ins, Cold Wave Precautions, and Health Guidelines
Busan City, in preparation for the winter cold wave, will provide cold weather supplies to vulnerable elderly living alone in collaboration with the Busan City Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly Living Alone.
This support targets 1,910 households of representative vulnerable elderly living alone, aged 75 or older, or elderly at high health risk.
Low-income elderly living alone face poor housing conditions, making the perceived indoor temperature during winter even lower, increasing their risk of cold-related illnesses.
The city purchased cold weather supplies with 70 million KRW from the Busan City Disaster Relief Fund, including ▲winter blankets (858 households) ▲winter clothing (717 households) ▲electric heating mats (335 households), which will be delivered in December through elderly care workers in each district and county.
The items were selected based on a preliminary demand survey conducted by Busan City targeting 30,436 vulnerable elderly living alone across 16 districts and counties.
Along with the delivery of supplies, the elderly’s well-being will be checked, and they will be provided with guidelines on actions to take during cold waves and health precautions.
