Application and Submission for '2024 Small and Medium Business Merit Awards' Open Until the 15th
Conducted Targeting 7.71 Million Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurs
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Federation of SMEs announced on the 3rd that the application and submission deadline for the ‘2024 Small and Medium Enterprise Merit Awards,’ which recognize individuals who have contributed to the development and promotion of small and medium enterprises, has been extended until the 15th.
The Small and Medium Enterprise Merit Awards target approximately 7.71 million small and medium business owners. The awards are presented at the ‘Korea Small and Medium Enterprise Convention,’ held during the third week of May each year, which is designated as Small and Medium Enterprise Week.
Applications are accepted in four categories: Model Small and Medium Enterprise Owners (Manufacturing, Distribution/Service), Model Workers, Contributors to SME Development, and Outstanding Supporting Organizations (Institutions). Through evaluation, recipients are awarded government honors such as the Order of Industrial Service Merit (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, and Stone Tower), Industrial Service Medals, Presidential Citations, Prime Minister’s Citations, and institutional commendations.

Recommendations are also received from major SME organizations such as the Women Entrepreneurs Association, Korea Venture Business Association, Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise, Inno-Biz Association, and Main-Biz Association.

However, companies listed for industrial accidents under the Industrial Safety and Health Act, violations of the Fair Trade Act, wage arrears under the Labor Standards Act, delinquency in national or local taxes, or those involved in social controversies are not eligible for recommendation. If a recipient has previously received a government award, re-awarding is restricted within 7 years for orders, 5 years for medals, and 3 years for Presidential and Prime Minister’s citations.
