Why Did Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Dance the Hula with People with Developmental Disabilities?
On the afternoon of the 30th, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, visited the Mapo Cultural Creation Center for People with Developmental Disabilities located in Donggyo-dong, Mapo District, to celebrate its 1st anniversary.
The Mapo Cultural Creation Center for People with Developmental Disabilities offers a variety of programs ranging from recreational sports such as hula hooping, choir, and climbing classes to cultural arts, striving to improve the daily living skills and promote cultural activities of people with developmental disabilities.
The commemorative ceremony was attended by Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo District, as well as people with developmental disabilities and their families from the local community, adding to the significance of the event.
On this day, after watching a video report on the 1st anniversary achievements, Mayor Park Gang-su viewed exhibition works personally created by people with developmental disabilities. He then enjoyed an enthusiastic hula hoop performance by the center’s students and tried hula hooping himself, spending a joyful time with the participants.

In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Park Gang-su said, “I would like to express my gratitude to Lee Ji-young, President of the Mapo Branch of the Parents’ Association for the Disabled, and all the staff who have worked hard to support the cultural life of people with developmental disabilities.” He added, “Mapo District will do its utmost in various ways to enable people with developmental disabilities to be active in more diverse fields.”
