Cho Seung-hwan, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated regarding the acquisition of the national shipping company HMM, "A company with a high understanding of the shipping industry and a viable plan to properly lead the company should take charge."
On the 28th (local time), Minister Cho met with reporters at the 33rd International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly held in London, UK, and said, "Everyone knows how important international shipping companies are."
Earlier, on the 22nd, a day before the main bidding, Minister Cho said, "We are preparing for all possible scenarios," and "We will respond immediately once the results come out."
Dongwon Group and Harim Group participated in the main bidding for HMM conducted by the Korea Development Bank and the Korea Ocean Business Corporation on the 23rd. The sellers plan to comprehensively review the companies' financial status, management capabilities, and shipping business operation plans, select a preferred negotiation partner by early December at the latest, and conclude a stock purchase agreement within the year.

Additionally, regarding the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, Minister Cho stated, "We will strengthen inspections to ensure the supply of safe seafood."
