"162 Suspects in Daejeon Jeonse Fraud Case, Damages Approaching 150 Billion Won"
As of last month, the number of victims of jeonse fraud apprehended in Daejeon stands at 162, with the total amount of damages nearing 150 billion KRW, including ongoing investigations.
On the 30th, the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency held a briefing to announce the current status of jeonse fraud victims in the region. They also emphasized their commitment to strict investigations and victim protection in response to jeonse fraud.
According to the police, as of the 22nd of last month, a total of 68 cases of jeonse fraud have been detected and referred to the prosecution. There are 162 suspects in total, of whom 18 have been detained.
The police explained that among the 68 cases referred to the prosecution, there are approximately 600 victims, with damages amounting to 58.9 billion KRW.
In particular, when including both the referred cases and ongoing jeonse fraud investigations, the total damages approach 150 billion KRW, and the number of victims rises to around 1,370.
Considering that the special crackdown (second phase) will continue until the end of this year, it is expected that the number of arrests and the scale of damages may increase further.
In this regard, the police are currently operating a dedicated crime proceeds tracking team to assist victims in recovering damages and to respond to organized jeonse fraud.

At the briefing, Yoon Seung-young, Chief of the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency, stated, "The police have prioritized jeonse fraud as a top task, mobilizing all investigative capabilities, and will actively respond to prevent jeonse fraud and protect victims."
