According to the policy roadmap, obtaining ZEB certification has been mandatory for newly constructed public buildings since 2020, and from next year, it will also apply to newly constructed private buildings.
The Seobusan SK V1 Knowledge Industry Center successfully obtained preliminary ZEB certification by introducing the country's first medium-to-large scale (over 10kW) Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) in a general building (non-residential). By combining a 660kW fuel cell and a 103.6kW solar power generation facility, it was certified with an energy self-sufficiency rate of 24.9%, corresponding to ZEB Grade 5.
The total floor area of the certified building is approximately 165,000㎡, making it the largest case of ZEB certification for general buildings to date. The electricity generated through the fuel cell and solar power will be used for the building's common power supply, and the waste heat generated during fuel cell operation will be utilized for hot water through an installed heat recovery module.
Medium-to-large scale solid oxide fuel cells are already installed and operated in various buildings such as office and residential facilities in urban areas overseas, including the United States. Although there have been cases of ZEB certification using small fuel cells under 10kW domestically, the Seobusan SK V1 Knowledge Industry Center is the first to obtain certification by introducing medium-to-large scale solid oxide fuel cells.
