DGIST Appoints Lee Geon-woo, Former Dean of Seoul National University College of Engineering, as New President
The DGIST (Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology) Board of Directors held a meeting on the afternoon of the 27th and appointed Lee Geon-woo (67), Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, as the 5th president.
Appointed as the 5th president, the new president Lee Geon-woo graduated from Gyeonggi High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the M.I.T. Graduate School.
After being appointed as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1986, the new president has served as Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, President of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers, and President of the Korean Society for Engineering Education. Currently, he is serving as an emeritus professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University and a distinguished professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kookmin University.
President Lee Geon-woo is a world-renowned authority in the field of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and has led innovation in engineering education in South Korea. He has served as a board member of Korea University of Technology and Education (currently Korea Polytechnic University) and KAIST, and especially has extensive experience in establishing STEM education policies, having served as Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University and President of the Korean Society for Engineering Education. He is an ‘education administration expert’ who has been actively involved in the front lines of education.
President Lee Geon-woo expressed his aspirations, saying, “DGIST is pursuing high-level research and innovation in various fields for continuous growth and leap forward. I will continue to strive to explore new possibilities at the forefront of academia and research and realize a future-oriented vision.”

President Lee Geon-woo, appointed by the Board of Directors of DGIST, will be officially appointed in early December after the consent of the Minister of Education and the approval of the Minister of Science and ICT, with a term of four years.
