At the performance sharing meeting, attended by about 200 people including caregiver family volunteer groups and related organization officials, the agenda included ▲project progress report ▲activity video viewing ▲presentation of four outstanding cases ▲award ceremony for district leaders, among other events.
Starting this year, the district has been operating the ‘Caregiver Family Rest System,’ the first of its kind among local governments nationwide. This system is a Yeongdeungpo-gu specialized project that provides rest to families burdened with sole caregiving or nursing duties. Volunteer caregivers visit elderly households requiring constant care due to dementia, senile diseases, etc., in pairs to provide gap care services such as companionship, meal assistance, walks, and hospital accompaniment.
Since the volunteer group inauguration ceremony in May this year, about 700 volunteers have been active, providing 201 services to 111 elderly individuals who applied for care services.
Key achievements so far include ▲establishing the first caregiver system among local governments nationwide ▲providing user-centered welfare services through surveys of families caring for dementia patients ▲creating opportunities for caregiving families to rest through gap care services, thereby improving the elderly care environment.
Next year, reflecting this year’s achievements and areas for improvement, the district plans to focus on ▲establishing a comprehensive plan for the Caregiver Family Rest System ▲promoting customized specialized projects by district through volunteer group organization ▲strengthening project promotion to supply user-centered services ▲providing necessary education in elderly care settings.

Additionally, the district aims to expand the system nationwide by implementing and evaluating it, then recommending it to the government and Seoul City. This means that elderly people across the country will benefit thanks to Yeongdeungpo-gu, which is described as realizing ‘true local autonomy.’
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “In preparation for a super-aged society, caring for elderly people with dementia and senile diseases is a task that requires not only individuals but also the community to work together. Since the Caregiver Family Rest System is made possible by the voluntary service of residents, I ask for their active interest and participation. Next year, we will spare no effort to support more elderly people in using the service and continue a happy journey together with them.”
