Pukyong National University Student Wins Excellent Academic Paper Award at the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers Conference
Kim Minjae, a student in the integrated master's and doctoral program in Environmental Engineering at the Graduate School of Pukyong National University, and Lee Juyoon, a master's student, received the Excellent Academic Paper Award at the 2023 Korean Society of Environmental Engineers Domestic Conference.
At the recent conference held at BEXCO in Busan, Kim Minjae won the Excellent Academic Paper Award for his oral presentation last year titled "Investigation of the Effect of Magnetite Addition on Improving Acetate Degradation Methanogenesis: Batch and Semi-continuous Anaerobic Digestion Experiments" (Advisor: Professor Lee Junyeop).
In this paper, he received high praise for addressing the severity of organic acid accumulation problems commonly occurring in anaerobic digesters and proposing solutions to these issues.

This paper was recognized for designing primer and probe sets for Real-time qPCR (quantitative gene amplification analysis), enabling quantification of methanogens and laying the groundwork for evaluating digester efficiency and developing methods to respond to destabilization.
The Korean Society of Environmental Engineers is an academic organization established in 1978 with the purpose of advancing environmental engineering scholarship, enhancing the status of environmental engineering professionals, and developing and guiding environmental engineering technologies.
