Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has restored the damaged forest area on the foothills of Choansan Mountain and created the 'Choansan Hydrangea Garden.'
The 'Choansan Hydrangea Garden' covers an area of 15,890㎡ and is located around San 46-3, Wolgye-dong. This area had long been inconvenient for residents due to garbage dumping and illegal farming.
The district plans to establish the Choansan Healing Town here, following the previously created Bulamsan, Suraksan, Yeongchuksan, and Gyeongchun Line Healing Towns. This aims to provide residents with a resting space and resolve the imbalance in green welfare within the region, completing the healing city.
The Choansan Hydrangea Garden centers around a flower garden themed on hydrangeas and an ecological pond harmonizing with the nature of Choansan Mountain. Just as Bulamsan Healing Town is known for its springtime 'Azalea Hill,' Choansan Healing Town is expected to be represented by the summer 'Hydrangea Hill.'
Considering the blooming periods of different hydrangea species, about 8,000 plants of 17 varieties including Mok Hydrangea, Annabelle, and Summer Series were planted. At the center of the Hydrangea Garden, a 240㎡ natural stream, waterfall, and ecological pond were created to evoke the feeling of a natural garden. The district thoroughly prepared the growth environment by visiting excellent hydrangea planting sites in Boseong and Gongju, consulting experts, and conducting soil analysis.
Additionally, a 1.3 km circular walking trail encompassing the Hydrangea Garden and Biseokgol Park was established to allow everyone, including people with disabilities, seniors, and pregnant women, to enjoy the hydrangeas and nature. Convenience facilities such as pergolas for resting, parking lots, and restrooms were also provided.
After about a year of construction, the Choansan Hydrangea Garden is scheduled to hold its completion ceremony at 3 p.m. on November 23. In the first half of next year, the district is preparing to open the
Meanwhile, the district is promoting a 'Living Park Regeneration Project' targeting 28 living parks and 90 children's parks in the area. Park regeneration is carried out in a way that highlights individuality according to the conditions of surrounding areas, including circular walking trails, exercise spaces, grassy lawns, resting areas, and reinforcement of children's play facilities.
The adjacent 'Biseokgol Neighborhood Park' was also reopened in July after reorganization, including a water play area, resting garden, circular walking trail, and stone artifact exhibition space. Among these, the 'Biseokgol Resting Garden,' though only about 50 pyeong in size, was recognized for its clear storytelling, nurturing of village gardeners, and co-creation and management with residents, contributing to the spread of urban garden culture. It was selected as one of the '2023 Beautiful Gardens of Korea.'
