Yoon Meets with Pro-Korea Tory Leader David Jamieson in the UK
Yoon "Grateful for the Development of Korea-UK Relations... Strengthening Ties through Downing Street Agreement"
During his state visit to the United Kingdom, President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Edward Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, after delivering a speech to Parliament on the 21st (local time).
The Blue House stated that President Yoon expressed his gratitude to Leader Davey for his special efforts in advancing Korea-UK relations, noting that Davey represents the constituencies of Kingston and Surbiton, areas with a high concentration of Koreans in the UK, and has served as the chair of the 'All-Party Parliamentary Korea Group' since 2021.
President Yoon also said, "Building on the 'Downing Agreement' signed during this state visit, we will significantly strengthen bilateral relations in trade and science and technology cooperation," adding, "I ask for bipartisan support so that our two countries can expand cooperation based on shared values."
Leader Davey responded, "This year marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the UK, and I am very honored that President Yoon is making a state visit to the UK and adopting a comprehensive agreement document called the 'Downing Agreement,'" adding, "I hope that the long-standing friendly and cooperative relationship between our two countries will be further strengthened through this state visit."

Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, said at a press briefing in London that "the Liberal Democrats hold the position of the fourth party in the House of Commons and the third party in the House of Lords," and added, "Leader Davey has a special connection with Korea. He is an enthusiastic fan of kimchi to the extent that he makes kimchi himself."
