Opening of Gwanak-gu Park Jong-cheol Center
On the 15th, the Park Jongcheol Center Opening Ceremony Held with Local Residents' Enthusiasm... "It Will Become a Regional Landmark Where the Culture and History of Democracy Live and Breathe"
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is home to the ‘Park Jong-cheol Center,’ a space where the life of martyr Park Jong-cheol, who laid the foundation for the development of democracy, breathes.
This year, the district remodeled a neighborhood living facility near University 5-gil in Gwanak-gu to newly establish the ‘Park Jong-cheol Center,’ a democracy culture center. It is especially meaningful as it was created near the boarding house where Park Jong-cheol actually lived as a university student in the 1980s.
The Park Jong-cheol Center was built with a total floor area of 313.87㎡, from the basement first floor to the third floor above ground. The basement first floor houses a multipurpose auditorium, the first floor above ground has an outdoor resting area, the second floor has a planned exhibition room and office space, and the third floor has a permanent exhibition room.
Among these, the permanent exhibition room displays photos of Park Jong-cheol during his lifetime, handwritten letters, diaries, and more. Here, residents can spend a special time glimpsing the life of Park Jong-cheol and the narrative chronicle of the democracy movement.
Additionally, the district held the opening ceremony of the Park Jong-cheol Center on the 15th. About 70 people, including Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, officials from related organizations such as the Jeon Tae-il Memorial Hall and the Lee Han-yeol Memorial Hall, and local residents, attended the event to brighten the occasion.
Despite the chilly weather, many residents attended and collectively wished for the Park Jong-cheol Center to become a landmark of Gwanak-gu where culture and history live and breathe.
In the future, the Park Jong-cheol Center plans to carry out ▲ exhibitions and research ▲ education and experience programs ▲ various cultural and artistic projects.
The operating hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays, and any residents wishing to visit are welcome. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Park Jong-cheol Center.
