Yeongdeok-gun Secures 11.2 Billion KRW in National Funding for Yeonghae Namcheon District Sewerage Maintenance
Selected as a Priority Management Area by the Ministry of Environment
Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has been selected as a ‘2023 Priority Sewerage Maintenance Area’ by the Ministry of Environment, securing 11.2 billion KRW in national funding, which has accelerated the sewerage maintenance project in the Namcheon drainage basin area of Yeonghae-myeon, where flood damage is a concern.
The target area of this project, Namcheon district in Yeonghae-myeon, has a high aging population ratio. Yeongdeok-gun applied for the Ministry of Environment’s priority management area designation in 2021 and 2022 and worked on flood prevention measures such as installing temporary pumps to protect the safety and property of local residents.
As a result, with the designation as a ‘2023 Priority Sewerage Maintenance Area,’ starting next year, a total of 18.6 billion KRW will be invested, including 11.2 billion KRW in national funds and 7.4 billion KRW in local funds, to actively promote flood damage response projects such as installing pipelines and rainwater pumping stations in the area.
Choi Dae-seok, Director of the Water Management Office, said, “Since the first application in 2021, the staff did not give up, and the project was selected on the third attempt,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that the project to prevent flooding in the Wonguri area proceeds swiftly, as much effort has been put into preparation.”

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol commented, “The efforts so far have not been in vain and have borne fruit, giving momentum to improving the safety and living conditions of the residents in the Namcheon district,” and added, “Since a considerable amount of national and local funds are being invested, we will focus administrative power on thoroughly reviewing and managing the project to ensure its successful completion.”
