Changwon Fire Headquarters Creates a Safe Changwon with Winter Fire Safety Measures
The Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam is implementing safety measures to prevent fires during the winter season, when the risk of fire increases.
The Fire Headquarters will promote the creation of a safe environment and focused prevention activities for four months from November to February next year to make Changwon safe from fires.
According to the Changwon Fire Headquarters, a total of 2,925 fires have occurred in Changwon City over the past five years, resulting in 128 casualties (15 deaths, 113 injuries) and property damage amounting to approximately 21.08 billion KRW.
Winter fires (from December to February) accounted for 870 cases, representing 29.74% of the total number of fires. The causes of fires were identified as negligence with 400 cases (45.9%), electrical factors with 199 cases (22.8%), and unknown causes with 127 cases (14.5%). Regarding fire locations, houses accounted for the highest number with 223 cases (25.6%), followed by outdoor areas with 207 cases (23.7%), and vehicles with 88 cases (10.1%).
In response, the Fire Headquarters will conduct on-site visits and safety consulting at least once a month targeting locations with a high risk of large fires, such as traditional markets, to reduce damage caused by winter fires.
Additionally, safety education will be provided to stakeholders and fire safety managers of facilities expected to face difficulties in fire safety management, and customized safety management will be promoted for logistics warehouses, high-rise buildings, and multi-use facilities.
In particular, to reduce fires caused by negligence and electrical factors, which are the leading causes of fires, focused publicity and safety education will be implemented.
Furthermore, in November, events emphasizing fire prevention month will be held, including the 119 Safety Experience Event, to foster a public consensus on fire prevention.
