Gwangju Nam-gu, Playing a Key Role in Real-Time Road Hazard Information System
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been operating a real-time road hazard information system since early this year, playing a significant role in preventing safety accidents on the roads.
According to Nam-gu on the 2nd, the real-time road hazard information system was selected last year through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2022 Smart City Innovation Technology Discovery Project' competition. The system detects various hazards on the road in real time, including potholes, fallen objects, and roadkill.
Nam-gu invested about 1.2 billion KRW in project costs, including 970 million KRW in national funds, installing AI road analysis devices on district office official vehicles and public transportation to receive various information, including the current road conditions, through an interconnected system server within the district office.
In particular, the real-time detection and analysis devices immediately transmit visual video data to the relevant departments within the district office, greatly contributing to improving work efficiency.
Since early this year, the cumulative data delivered to the real-time road hazard information system has reached tens of thousands of cases.
The Construction Division, which manages major roads, collected data on 246 potholes and 13,698 road cracks, while the Resource Circulation Division recorded 6,126 cases of data related to fallen objects such as trash.
Additionally, the Traffic Guidance Division collected 3,069 cases of data related to road surface markings and 1,206 cases related to guiding posts, and the Urban Planning Division gathered 5,146 cases of information solely about banners around the roads.
