President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the National Assembly on the 31st of last month to deliver the policy speech on next year's government budget.

In his speech, President Yoon mentioned the economy 23 times, livelihood 9 times, and prices 8 times, emphasizing the economic difficulties felt by the people and urging that the budget be executed without any setbacks.

Before the speech, during a preliminary conversation, President Yoon also met face-to-face with Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party. Although it was with other key figures as well, it was effectively the first time since his inauguration that he met Lee in an official setting.

As President Yoon entered the plenary session hall, he extended his hand to opposition party members for a handshake. Some members ignored him and avoided shaking hands. Kang Seong-hee, a member of the Progressive Party, held up a placard with phrases such as "The term to cut is not the budget but Yoon's term!" While stepping down from the podium and leaving, President Yoon shook hands with members but did not make eye contact with Kang.

After finishing the policy speech, President Yoon walked around the plenary hall greeting members of both ruling and opposition parties. He shook hands again with Lee Jae-myung before leaving the hall.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party held a silent placard protest outside the Rotunda Hall timed with the president's entrance to the National Assembly. The Democratic Party criticized President Yoon's policy speech as a "bland speech lacking reflection on government failures and a sense of crisis regarding the economic situation."
