Pohang City held the ‘Pohang Bio·Healthcare Company Exchange Meeting’ on the 27th at ChangeUP Ground to promote mutual growth through the establishment of a cooperative system among companies and to build a bio-industry ecosystem in Pohang.

View original imageThe exchange meeting was attended by Pohang City, about 40 local bio companies, POSCO Holdings, POSTECH, Handong University, Pohang Technopark, and other industry-academia-research-government stakeholders, aiming to activate voluntary networks among companies to create a win-win bio-industry ecosystem.
Additionally, the participants shared time to discuss and build consensus on the companies’ difficulties, the future formation of a Pohang bio-company council, and development plans for the local bio-industry.
At the meeting, Pohang City explained key ongoing projects, including attracting the ‘POSTECH Research-Oriented Medical School’ to establish a national bio-industry new growth value chain through training physician-scientists, and applying for the ‘National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex’ in the bio sector following the secondary battery industry, drawing significant interest from participating companies.
Furthermore, Cho Sung-hwan, CTO of NanoSelect (a U.S. bio-venture company), and Kim Bong-hyun, Vice President of Bodax Bio (a NASDAQ-listed company), shared their experiences in founding and growing bio companies in the U.S. and the structure of the U.S. bio ecosystem, offering suggestions for successfully creating a bio-company ecosystem in Pohang.

The success of Pohang’s biohealth industry depends on the growth of companies and the establishment of a virtuous cycle ecosystem for the industry. We will continue to create a mutually beneficial structure through communication with companies.”
