Ministry of Industry Selects 7 Additional 'Data Center Regional Distribution Projects' Including SK Broadband and MS
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has additionally selected seven projects, including SK Broadband and Microsoft, for the data center regional dispersion initiative.
On the 27th, the Ministry held a meeting to review the progress of key data center regional dispersion projects at the Korea Electric Power Corporation Namseoul Headquarters, adding seven promising projects such as Mega Data Korea, Wonju IDC (Gangwon), Gyeongbuk-type Cloud (Gyeongbuk), IDC Dangjin First Phase (Chungnam), Powerlink (Chungbuk), and SK Broadband·Microsoft (Busan).
The Ministry reviewed the progress of ten major projects, including three leading projects such as the Solar City Data Center Park (Jeonnam), with which a memorandum of understanding (MOU) had already been signed, and discussed solutions to related difficulties such as ensuring sufficient power supply, early installation of substations, and prompt permits from local governments.
First, to successfully promote the data center regional dispersion projects, the Ministry plans to discover additional incentives in cooperation with related ministries and local governments, and to continuously monitor project implementation through ongoing online and offline meetings with KEPCO.

In addition, to alleviate the concentration of data centers in the metropolitan area, the Ministry will strictly review the impact on power quality and reliability when large-scale electricity usage applications are submitted through the implementation of the power system impact assessment system. Furthermore, to prevent the submission of power reception notices unrelated to actual demand, the Ministry plans to revise the Enforcement Decree of the Electricity Business Act.
