Application Open Until November 3, Step Up as a Cultural Guardian

Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that from the 20th of last month until November 3rd, it will accept applications from individuals and organizations requesting the designation of hidden local cultural heritage in Boseong-gun.

The designation targets cultural heritage such as tangible and intangible assets, monuments, and folk materials that are not designated as national or provincial cultural properties under the 「Cultural Heritage Protection Act」 or the 「Jeollanam-do Cultural Heritage Protection Ordinance」.

Since the 12 items designated in 2017, there have been no additional listings until now, but after six years, Boseong-gun has taken steps again to prevent the loss of local cultural heritage.

Owners or organizations wishing to register local cultural heritage can download the application form from the Boseong-gun website, fill it out, submit it to the relevant eup/myeon office, and later respond to expert investigations.

The cultural heritage will be designated as local cultural heritage after a first round of expert on-site visits, owner interviews, and data investigation, followed by a second review by the Boseong-gun Local Cultural Heritage Protection Committee, and a final deliberation.

Boseong-gun plans to issue designation certificates for local cultural heritage and conduct regular inspections annually together with the owners.

Mr. Kim, who applied for cultural heritage designation, said, “I hope many heritage items will be designated as Boseong-gun local cultural heritage and receive protection and management,” adding, “I hope that over time, our cultural heritage will advance to become national cultural heritage and be recognized as cultural heritage of the world.”

A Boseong-gun official stated, “Among the cultural heritage registered as Boseong-gun local cultural heritage, we will select one item each year to prepare application documents so that it can be registered as a provincial cultural property and enhance its value.”
