Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 24th that Byeong-gi An, Executive Director of the IT Optics Team, received the Presidential Citation at the '18th Electronics and IT Day' awards ceremony held at COEX in Seoul. He was recognized for his contributions to strengthening the competitiveness of the Korean camera module industry.
Executive Director An joined Samsung Electro-Mechanics in 2004 and developed core camera module technologies, enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic module industry. In 2007, he developed the world's first technology to apply a ceramic substrate to reduce the height of modules, contributing to the ultra-slim design of camera modules.
In 2019, he was the first in the world to transform smartphones into 'DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) style' devices. He successfully completed tasks including establishing the folded zoom strategy, product design, and mass production.

The supply chain for core camera module components, such as actuators, has been mainly established in Taiwan and Japan. Executive Director An enhanced actuator design and manufacturing capabilities, supporting the growth of domestic component supply partner companies.
Executive Director An said, "This award is meaningful as it proves Samsung Electro-Mechanics' camera module research and development (R&D) capabilities," adding, "We will continue to secure core technologies for ultra-competitive camera modules to provide optimal solutions to our customers."
