On the 24th, Daejeon City announced that it has finalized the winning design through a design competition for the Special Video Cluster.

Following the selection of the winning design, Daejeon plans to complete the design by September next year, begin construction in February 2025, and aim for completion in 2027 as part of the Special Video Cluster development project.

The winning design secures an open space axis that connects with the urban context of surrounding facilities and depicts pixel shapes of video content images on the facade. This work was jointly submitted by Haean Comprehensive Architects Co., Ltd. and D&B Architects Co., Ltd.

This design is characterized by creating a comprehensive entertainment space composed of an indoor exhibition hall (atrium) and an outdoor linked space, providing a specialized space that can embody highly advanced special video technology and the cultural value of the region.

The Special Video Cluster is planned to be constructed in Doryong-dong, Yuseong-gu, with a total budget of 147.6 billion KRW, covering a total floor area of 33,680㎡, with 1 basement floor and 10 above-ground floors.

The facility will include 79 rooms for companies to move in, three studios dedicated to special video, two studios for motion capture and immersive video production, as well as cutting-edge equipment such as 30 types of special video devices including robot cameras and drones, and 5G-based video transmission, storage, and conferencing systems.

Daejeon City plans to create a convergence content industry cluster linking special video specialized companies and Studio Cube through the Special Video Cluster, enabling Daejeon to leap forward as the largest video culture industry hub in South Korea.

Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "I hope the Special Video Cluster will become a landmark of Daejeon and emerge as the central hub for convergence special video content representing the central region." He added, "Daejeon City will strive to respond to technological changes such as digital transformation and the rise of OTT platforms, secure competitiveness in K-content, and lead the global market."
