Integration of Taxi Service Areas Between Muan-gun Naman New Town and Mokpo City

No Charges Applied Except for Watches Starting from the 1st of Next Month

Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 23rd that it will integrate the taxi service areas between Muan Naman New Town (including Oryong) and Mokpo City starting from the 1st of next month, coinciding with the increase in taxi fares and rates.

Since the relocation of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office to Naman, the dispute between the taxi industries of Mokpo and Muan, which lasted for about 17 years, has come to an end following a partial integration referendum on taxi service areas held in July (with a majority in favor). In August, an agreement was reached among Jeollanam-do, Mokpo City, Muan County, and the respective taxi industries, leading to the implementation of the partial integration of taxi service areas.

Accordingly, when using taxis within Naman New Town (including Oryong) and Mokpo City, Mokpo City taxi fares and rates will apply, and out-of-area charges will not be imposed.

In particular, Muan taxi companies, whose service area covers the entire Muan County, will be able to operate throughout the entire Mokpo area, while Mokpo taxi companies will be free to operate in Naman and Oryong areas.

Kim San, Governor of Muan County, stated, “The integration of taxi service areas between Naman New Town (including Oryong) and Mokpo City is the result of agreement and communication among the government, taxi industry, and residents,” adding, “We will continue to make our best efforts to realize transportation welfare by ensuring residents’ convenience and mobility rights.”
