The 7th Haebaragi Volunteer Group members visited the abandoned dog shelter ‘Big Dog Forest’ located in Ilsan, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 15th, carrying out various volunteer activities such as cleaning and donating supplies to ensure the abandoned dogs could live healthily in a comfortable environment.
Big Dog Forest is a nonprofit organization serving as a shelter for large abandoned dogs, mostly elderly dogs, and also handles adoption services to help the abandoned dogs find new homes.
On that day, the volunteers started their activities early in the morning by visiting the shelter and cleaning the kennels and surrounding areas so that the abandoned dogs could live in a clean and pleasant environment. They then distributed snacks favored by the dogs, building rapport between the volunteers and the abandoned dogs.
Afterward, the shelter staff explained the characteristics and precautions for each dog, and the volunteers took individual walks with the dogs. After the walks, the volunteers concluded their activities by delivering dog-specific toys and cleaning supplies they had prepared themselves.
The volunteers who participated said it was a meaningful time to provide even a small help to the shelter, which is short-handed, and especially a valuable experience to feel the hardships and love for companion dogs. They also emphasized the urgent need for improving awareness and support for abandoned dogs.
