Mokpo Coast Guard Holds Regular Meeting of Regional Disaster Prevention Council
Strengthening Response Cooperation System Among Related Agencies for Large-Scale Pollution Accidents
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) announced on the 20th that it held a regular meeting of the Mokpo Regional Pollution Response Council on the 19th to establish a rapid response system for marine pollution accidents.
This Mokpo Regional Pollution Response Council is an advisory body composed of 24 officials from 23 related organizations, including the Mokpo Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, local governments, the Navy, the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, and the Fisheries Cooperative, responsible for marine pollution accident tasks, with the Chief of Mokpo Maritime Police Station as the chairman, in accordance with the Marine Environment Management Act.

At this meeting, in-depth discussions were held on △ sharing major marine pollution accident cases within the jurisdiction △ reviewing the revised Mokpo regional response execution plan in preparation for large-scale marine pollution accidents △ inter-agency coordination and opinion gathering on support matters such as personnel, equipment, and damage investigation necessary for response measures in case of pollution accidents.
A representative of Mokpo Maritime Police stated, “To prevent large-scale marine pollution accidents, it is important to share information and establish a cooperative system among related agencies and companies,” and added, “Please cooperate so that smooth accident handling can proceed in actual situations based on the cooperative system established through this meeting.”

Meanwhile, a total of 23 marine pollution accidents occurred in the Mokpo area last year, with a pollutant leakage volume reaching 26.63㎘, highlighting the increasing importance of marine pollution accident prevention activities through the Regional Pollution Response Council.
