Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award 'Recipient'
Gwangyang Hope Library in Jeollanam-do was selected as this year's outstanding library and received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the opening ceremony of the 60th National Library Conference held on the 18th at the Jeju International Convention Center.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selects and encourages outstanding libraries every year to provide the public with quality reading culture environments.
This year, among all 15,453 libraries nationwide, including public, school, military, prison, and specialized libraries, 48 libraries with excellent operational performance were selected and awarded certificates of commendation, prize money, and plaques as outstanding libraries.
Gwangyang Hope Library was recognized for its achievements in providing specialized services as a children's library, such as the lifecycle-based Book Start project to improve local children's reading skills, nurturing young writers, planning exhibitions in the Author's Room, and producing book play video content.
Additionally, it received high evaluations for annually collaborating with the Gwangyang Office of Education to provide library usage education to all third-grade elementary students in Gwangyang City, and for conducting various cooperative projects with local companies and organizations such as POSCO M-TEC, SNNC, and the SW Convergence Education Cooperative, including software playgrounds and eco-friendly experience programs, thereby seeking a new library role that cooperates and coexists with the local community.
