Safety Comes First in the Virtual World Too!
The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA, President An Jong-ju) received the Minister of Science and ICT Award, the highest honor in the public sector, at the ‘2023 Korea Metaverse Awards’ held at COEX on the 18th.
The Korea Metaverse Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency and others, aim to discover companies and institutions that have contributed to revitalizing the metaverse ecosystem and advancing the industry.
KOSHA won the award in the public sector under the theme of ‘Dissemination and Expansion of Industrial Safety Metaverse Content and VR Experiential Education.’ The public sector category was newly established this year to reflect the active use of metaverse technology in public services such as public safety and citizen convenience.
Since 2017, KOSHA has integrated ‘VR (Virtual Reality),’ a branch of the metaverse, into safety and health education. To date, it has developed over 1,000 types of VR content, which are freely distributed through channels such as the agency’s website resource center and the 360VR dedicated hall.
Additionally, KOSHA operates a ‘Visiting VR’ service that provides VR equipment and training free of charge to small workplaces and workplaces employing foreigners where using VR content is difficult, helping to raise awareness and consciousness about industrial accident prevention and safety.
To enhance the interest of future prospective industrial workers in industrial safety and provide effective information, KOSHA has established and is operating the ‘Safety and Health Campus, Save Me Safety God’ channel within the 3D virtual experience platform ‘Zepeto.’
