Next month in Incheon, you will be able to preview Urban Air Mobility (UAM) that will fly over the skies of Paris during the '2024 Paris Olympics'.
Incheon City announced on the 18th that it will co-host the '2023 K-UAM Conpex' with the UAM international cooperation body GURS from November 8 to 10 at the Inspire Resort in Yeongjong International City. Especially, at the special session 'Paris Olympics UAM Demonstration Flight' held on the 9th, the Paris administrative authorities and Paris Airport Group (ADP) will showcase the UAM system to be operated during the Paris Summer Olympics next year.
The special session will feature presentations from ?le-de-France (the administrative region including Paris and its suburbs) from an urban perspective, Paris Airport Group from an airport perspective, the aircraft manufacturer Volocopter from a flight perspective, and the vertiport (vertical takeoff and landing site) operator Skysports from an operational perspective.
This is the first time that the relevant authorities and participating companies will jointly present at an international event regarding the Paris Olympics UAM demonstration flight. Unlike previous discussions focused mainly on the aircraft, this event will provide a detailed showcase of the entire urban air mobility system, including vertiports, operational services, and sightseeing routes.
During the Paris Olympics and Paralympics next year, UAM will operate three transport routes and two circular sightseeing routes based on five vertiports. ?le-de-France has been conducting various demonstrations and verifications since 2020. Paris Airport Group plans to sell UAM boarding tickets during the Olympics.
An official from Incheon City stated, "This special session will not only demonstrate the feasibility of UAM but also serve as an important opportunity to transform Incheon's UAM paradigm. We will do our best to make K-UAM Conpex a global event that secures UAM standards, industrial ecosystems, and social and citizen acceptance."
Meanwhile, Incheon City has been hosting the K-UAM Conpex since 2021 to secure a leading position in the UAM industry, a new air traffic system developed with vertical takeoff and landing vehicles such as PAVs (Personal Air Vehicles). Through Conpex, the international cooperation body 'GURS' was also established to accelerate the commercialization era of urban air mobility. This cooperation body includes 14 members from cities, airports, universities, and institutions, and the Conpex event also serves as the annual general meeting for GURS members.
