Jecheon City Library and Daegu Gangdong Elementary School Receive Presidential Citation for Outstanding Libraries
Government Awards Presented at the Opening Ceremony of the 60th National Library Conference on the 18th
A Total of 48 Institutions Awarded
The Jecheon City Library (public library category) and Daegu Gangdong Elementary School (school library category) have been selected for the Excellent Library Presidential Citation awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In addition, a total of 48 libraries will receive government awards, including 6 libraries receiving the Prime Minister's Citation, 7 libraries receiving the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education's Citation, and 33 libraries receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Citation. Excellent libraries receive a certificate of commendation, a prize, and an Excellent Library plaque.
Jecheon City Library was highly evaluated for operating services that reflect the characteristics of the region in connection with local community organizations, such as family reading camps, reading festivals, Happy Dream puppet performances, and the use of Uirimji for a bookcation during the vacation season. Daegu Gangdong Elementary School received high scores for creative classes centered around the library, career experience events in cooperation with the village community, and home-linked reading programs.
The Prime Minister's Citation will be awarded to 4 libraries in the public library category: Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Namsan Library, Incheon Metropolitan Yeongjong Library, Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education Changwon Library, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Hallra Library; 1 library in the school library category: Gyeonggi-do Maseok Middle School; and 1 in the military library category: Air Force Education Command.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selects excellent libraries annually and awards government honors to discover and spread best practices in library management and to provide the public with quality reading culture conditions. This year, excellent library candidates were recommended by 17 metropolitan and provincial governments and their education offices, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Justice, and the Korea Association of Specialized Libraries. After expert review committees and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Ministry of Education official review committees deliberated, excellent libraries were selected.
