"Facing Limits in Humanitarian Situation in Gaza"… UN Warns
Food and Fuel Depletion... Critical Patient Treatment Faces Suspension Risk
"Urgent Call to Ensure Safe Entry of Relief Supplies"
Warnings from UN agencies continue to highlight that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is under retaliatory airstrikes by Israel, has reached its limit.
On the 17th (local time), Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), stated at the UN Geneva office, "It appears that no efforts are being made to provide shelter, sanitation, or safety conditions for civilians displaced in the Gaza Strip." She emphasized, "There is a shortage of evacuation facilities for them, and food supplies are rapidly depleting," adding, "There is little to no access to water, hygiene products, medicines, and other essentials."
On the same day, the World Food Programme (WFP), a UN agency, urged that relief supplies be allowed to enter Gaza safely, stating, "Food stocks in stores within the Gaza Strip will only last for about 4 to 5 days."
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) also issued a statement, saying, "Fuel reserves for all hospitals across the Gaza Strip will only last for the next 24 hours," stressing the urgent need to supply fuel to medical facilities.
Medical facilities in the Gaza Strip are treating critically injured patients from shelling and other attacks. With power supply cut off, generators are being run on fuel to provide electricity, but if the fuel runs out, life-support equipment such as ventilators and dialysis machines will cease to operate.
