He also added that for the 'Youth Basic Income' matching project with cities and counties, if the respective city or county does not set a budget, matching subsidy support will not be provided from next year.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon explained this on the 17th during the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's audit of Gyeonggi Province, in response to a question from Basic Income Party member Yong Hye-in (proportional representation).
Governor Kim first stated, "Basic Income and Opportunity Income are fundamentally different issues," and then replied, "I plan to comprehensively revise Basic Income and Opportunity Income while setting next year's budget."
He added, "Basic Income consists of three types: youth, farmers, and rural areas," and said, "The closest to unconditional, universal, and cash-based Basic Income is the Rural Basic Income, which is currently being piloted in Yeoncheon County targeting 4,000 people. We are reviewing overall changes to the Basic Income program."
Earlier, Basic Income Party member Yong Hye-in (proportional representation) explained during the audit that "Youth Basic Income is under threat," because "the Yoon Seok-yeol administration held a Social Security Committee meeting on the 12th and decided to discourage cash welfare in the future."
She also expressed concern, saying, "Seongnam, where the head of the institution belongs to the People Power Party, abolished Youth Basic Income," and "Among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, 22 local governments are led by People Power Party members. More than two-thirds may change (Basic Income)."
