Busan City Secures Consecutive Large-Scale International Conferences in the Medical Field
Achieved Hosting of 2 Major International Medical Conferences in September-October This Year
Total of 16 Medical International Conferences Hosted Since 2023, with Over 26,000 Participants
Busan City is attracting attention by consecutively hosting high-quality medium to large-scale international conferences in the medical field.
Busan City, together with Busan Tourism Organization and BEXCO, has achieved the feat of securing two medium to large-scale international medical conferences, including the ‘2027 Asia-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (A-PHPBA)’ and the ‘2027 Asia-Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (APMTS),’ scheduled for September to October this year.
International conferences in the medical field not only help improve regional medical standards and foster the medical industry but also have a significant impact on the MICE industry and local economic revitalization.
According to current data, the total number of medium to large-scale medical-related international conferences confirmed to be held at BEXCO since 2023 is 16, with an expected total attendance of 26,400 participants. Among these, seven large international conferences are expected to have over 2,000 participants each, totaling approximately 13,000 attendees.
Medical-related international conferences confirmed to be held since 2023 include the 2023 Asia Inflammatory Bowel Disease Conference, 2023 Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2023 World Microscopy Congress, and the 2025 Asian Cardiology Congress.
Behind these successful bids lies the strategic efforts of Busan City and related organizations over the past few years. Since 2020, through the ‘Haeundae International Conference Complex District Public Contest Project’ led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, national funding has been secured to strengthen the infrastructure and branding of Busan’s MICE industry.
In particular, a continuous project has been underway to replace BEXCO’s old and outdated conference hall slide screens with high-definition LED screens to meet the demand for high-definition video output required by recent international events.
By replacing three LED screens by the end of this year with the secured project funds, BEXCO will become the conference hall with the most LED screens in South Korea.
