'Nowon Photo Contest' Held... Submission Deadline on 31st, New Portrait Theme 'Children of Nowon' Added, Separate Awards Planned to Encourage Childbirth... Total 19 Works, Total Prize Money 4.4 Million Won, Open to All Until 31st
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the 'Nowon Photo Contest' under the theme of 'My Nowon Story.'
Started in 2008, the photo contest is celebrating its 16th edition this year and has been gaining increasing participation and high interest over the years. This year, the number of selected works has been increased compared to last year, and the total prize money has also been raised. This is to share the lives of residents living in the cultural city of Nowon and to encourage interest in the area and participation in district administration.
The contest theme is 'My Nowon Story.' Photos capturing the people, nature, and culture of Nowon that depict special moments you want to share together are welcome. Especially this year, a new portrait category titled 'Children of Nowon' has been established, with separate awards given to promote childbirth.
The contest is open to anyone regardless of age or region, and each participant can submit up to three entries. Only photos taken in 2023 must be submitted as image files (JPG) between 5 to 10MB in size.
Up to 19 works will be selected, with prizes including 1,000,000 KRW for the Grand Prize (1 winner), 500,000 KRW each for Excellence Awards (2 winners), 300,000 KRW each for Merit Awards (4 winners), and 100,000 KRW each for Honorable Mentions (12 winners).
Entries must be submitted online via the Nowon-gu Office website by 6 PM on the 31st. For more details, please refer to the official website.
The district will consider the relevance to the theme, creativity, and artistic quality, and the judging process will consist of a first round of online preliminary screening and a second round of offline final judging by a panel of internal and external multimedia experts. The winning works will be announced on November 27 through the Nowon-gu Office website.
The winning works will later be used for district promotional materials and publications, shared with residents via the district website, and made available for various uses through original file downloads.
Meanwhile, last year’s contest received a total of 684 submissions. The Grand Prize was awarded to 'Gyeongsangdo Soap Bubble Show (by Kim Jong-min),' capturing a street art festival performance at the azalea-filled Bulamsan Azalea Hill. The Excellence Awards went to 'Cultural City Nowon - Stronger Again' (by Jung Woon-ho), depicting the Nowon Mask Festival, and 'Danghyeoncheon Light Street' (by Ko Ki-young), a photo of the underground light street at Sanggye Station.
